A very diverse day of contrasting conditions faced those that played in the KZN Senior Amateur monthly tournament held at Umdoni on Tuesday 23rd January 2018. The day started off in bright sunshine with a stiff NE wind, blowing hard enough to test golfers. By mid-afternoon it had clouded over then came lightning and thunder enough to make some start thinking of heading back to the clubhouse, then as suddenly it cleared again with intermittant light rain for a while.

None of this seemed to affect the winners on the day as revealled by the scores. Winning the A Division was Guy O'Çonnor with a fine round of 70 gross with Ian King taking the second spot with 75 gross.

The best nett prize went to Kurt Stander with a score of 76 less 7 = 69 nett with second best nett going to Antony Brown with 77 less 6 = 71 nett.

The stableford scores in the B Division were also excellent with Daan Fourie taking first place honors with a fine score of 41 stableford points. Second was Babs Govender on 40, third was Roy Singh also on 40 (counted out), and fourth was John Westwood on 38 stableford points.

The C Division was won by K D Pillay with 37 stableford points followed by Alan Branfield with 36 and Solomon Sibeko with 35.

All the results for the day are to be found under the "Seniors" tab and "Featured Downloads" heading on the Seniors News page.

Nearest the pin prizes sponsored by GolfBalls4You went to John Westwood (3rd hole), Ian King (7th hole), Lynton Beckett (12th hole) and Guy O 'Connor (16th hole).

The quality of scorecards being handed in still remains an issue, There were three disqualifications for either no handicapp recorded on the card making it impossible to verify stableford scores or no name at all. In order to make the job of capturing correct scores quicker and easier, we urge players and markers to pay particular attention to completing and handing in neat, legible, cards.

The next event on the KZN Senior Amateur calendar is the monthly tournament on 12th February at Victoria Country Club. See you all there !
