Murray Gilson 2

I am surprised that the 109 players that turned up on the day were actually able to play at Royal Durban Golf Club on Monday 7th December 2020, given the amount of rain that the course has had to withstand over recent days. Some of the tee's had been moved up and the par 5 seventh hole was shortened to a par 3, resulting in the par rating for the course being changed from 73 to 71.

In spite of the course being very wet in places and with absolutely no run on the fairways and with casual water in abundance, some excellent scores were posted across all three divisions.

Top honours on the day went to Murray Gilson (pictured) who managed to fire a level par round of 71 gross in which I consider to have been difficult conditions, earning him first place in the "A" Division. Second in the "A" Division was Keith Forde, one shot back with a gross of 72.

The Best Nett prize went to Kevin Curren with a gross score of 74 less 6 h/capp = nett 68 with the runner-up being Maurice Chellin with 77 gross less 9 h/capp = 68 nett.

As mentioned earlier, there were good scores across all divisions and in the "B" Division, taking first place with 38 individual stableford points, was Prem Hiralal. Second place was Domingos de Jesus with 37 points, third was Bheki Mkhize with 36 points, forth was Gary Price who counted out Mike Cockerell, also with 36 points, into fifth spot in the process.

Again, excellent scoring in the "C" Division with Henry Gounden being awarded first place in a count out process, with runner-up nKosinathi Langa taking second spot with both players scoring 40 individual stableford points. Unfortunately for Teddy Reddy who also scored 40 stableford points, only two prizes were paid out in the "C" Division. The number of prizes paid out in each Division is based on the number of participants in each Division.

There being no prizegiving, winners will receive their vouchers from the KZNGU Office via email.

This was our final game for this year and the next scheduled game will be held at Victoria CC on 26th January 2021. This will be followed by our monthly tournament at Umdoni Park on 16th February 2021 before the Classic Open where we will be back at Victoria CC on 4th - 5th March 2021 and then the KZN Senior Amateur Championships which takes place at Durban Country Club on 7th - 8th March 2021.

Until then, have a blessed and wonderful Christmas and a safe Festive Season and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Many thanks to our sponsors for their continued support.
