There was a disappointing turnout for the monthly tournament held at Selborne Golf Estate on 30th September. Obviously the threat of a wet and windy day put a lot of golfers off, however, late cancellations sometimes really inconvenience the players who do turn up and also prevents those late entries from getting a game if the cancellation is not done timeously enough. Of the almost full draw of 100 players, only 73 turned up. Not good guys ! One player in particular found himself on his own as the remaining three of his four-ball did not pitch at all !

Those that did turn out had a great day at Selborne even though the wind was blustery, however thankfully, there was no rain. Those that decided not to play really missed out on a good day on a course in good condition.

Although scores on the day reflected the playing conditions, some managed to keep it together and to return decent scores. Noel Parsonage (pictured above) managed to take the A Division first place with a credible four-over gross 76 counting out Philip Grant into second place, also with 76 in the process. Not in the prizes but coming third was Guy O'Connor with 77 gross. Brian Harris, Sean Fenger and Keith Forde followed on 78 with Kevin Curren and Murray Gilson on 79.

The Best Nett prize in the A Division went to Brian Harris with a score of 78 gross less 8 h'cap = 70 nett. Runner-up was Dean Stopforth with a score of 80 gross less 4 h'cap = 76 nett.

In spite of the gusting winds, there were some good scores in the B Division with Ganas Naicker taking first prize with a score of 37 individual stableford points. Second was Robin Singh with 36 stableford points and third was Neeraj Sunker with 33 stableford points.

There were only 11 players in the C Division resulting in only one prize being awarded and this went to Veen Naidoo with a score of 36 individual stableford points.

All the results for the day have been posted under the Senior Dowloads TAB under Senior News.

One further point needs mentioning and I may be preaching to the converted here but, gentlemen, there appears to be a growing disregard for the repair of divots on the course. Our KZN Senior Amateur golfers have a reputation to maintain and I just want to remind fellow golfers to carry a sand bag and to repair/fill divots and to make this a habit going forward for the benefit of all.

Our next outing is to be held at Mount Edgecombe CC on 14th October. See you there.

Many thanks to our sponsor for their continued support.
