IMG 7150 Umdoni Golf Club

Always a popular venue with many as confirmed by the turnout of 103 golfers at our monthly tournament held at Umdoni Park Golf Club on Tuesday 16th February 2021. Although a relatively short course, the recent rains and resultant growth has seen most of the long rough demarcated as red stake penalty areas. Keeping the ball on the fairway or at least in the first-cut was essential under the circumstances. The greens were also a bit on the slow side and it was difficult to get the ball up to the hole as most found out. Nevertheless, a great day out and the little bit of rain in the late half of the afternoon did little to dampen spirits or affect scores on the day.

There were good scores through all divisions on the day. Winner of the A Division was Lynton Beckett (pictured above) with a gross score of one over par 73. There were four players grouped on two over par gross 74 and taking second place in the A Division, based on a count -out, was Hennie Heyns. Those counted out were Glyn Foreman, Grant Lister-James and Sean Fenger. The best nett in the A Division was Les Moonsamy with a gross score of 75 less 7 h'cap = 68 nett. Runner-up was Dave Fisher with 79 less 7 h'cap = 72 nett.

Good scores in the B Division as well with Chris Coleman taking first place with 38 individual stableford points. Second place (counted out) also with 38 points was Henry Gounden.

In the C Division, Herran Chellan managed to take the first place spot with 36 individual stableford points followed by Paks Pakiriy with 34 points who counted out Mike Robertson in the process.

Winners in the various divisions will receive their vouchers via email.

The committee received a complaint of slow play on the day and this was mostly due to the search for "lost" balls. Just a reminder to all that you have three minutes to look for a "lost" ball and it is advisable for the rest of the fourball to play their next shots BEFORE going to assist in the search.

A reminder that the KZN Senior Classic is to be played at Victoria Country Club over Thursday and Friday 4th-5th March followed by the KZN Senior Championships which is to be played at Durban Country Club over Sunday and Monday 7th-8th March. Entries for both of these 36 hole tournaments closes on Friday 19th February so don't delay !

The next KZN Senior monthly tournament is scheduled for 29th March and will be played at Royal Durban Golf Club.

Many thanks to our sponsors for their continued support.
