Phillip Grant wins at Mount Edgecombe Country Club (The Woods)

A good turnout at MECC The Woods on 14th September for the first of two September KZN Senior Amateur tournaments. The weather didn’t exactly play it’s part but Phillip Grant (featured left) managed to play solid golf to win the A Division by three shots with an impressive gross score of 74. Runner-up three shots back was Andy Forde with a gross score of 77. The Best Nett position was closely contested with Dean Stopforth taking first place with a score of gross 79 less 8 handicap = nett 71. Second was Glynn Forman with a score of gross 78 less 6 handicap = nett 72.

In the B Division Omprakesh Ramlakhan returned a winning score of 37 individual stableford points playing off an 18 handicap to take first place followed by Francois Cronje with 33 points playing off an 11 handicap.

The C Division was also a close result with Denzel Ramiah taking first place with 35 stableford points playing off a 19 handicap with Robert Pattinson one point adrift with 34 stableford points playing off a 24 handicap.

Clive Lazarus excels at Selborne Park

A very strong and gusty wind blew along the KZN coast on Sunday 27th September where 43 players braved the conditions at Selborne Park Golf Club. Clive Lazarus (featured right) however seemed to revel in the tough conditions and returned a gross 73 to take first place in the A Division by one stroke from Guy O’Connor, Dale Cooke and Gary Welsh who all shot gross 74. Guy O’Connor was awarded second place gross on a count-out basis with Dale Cooke taking the first placed Best Nett prize with gross 74 less 5 handicap = nett 69. Runner-up best nett was Gary Welsh with gross 74 less 4 handicap = nett 70.

As there were only 18 players making up the B and C Divisions, these Divisions were combined resulting in SS Mzimela taking overall first place with an excellent score of 38 individual stableford points playing off a 14 handicap. Second place went to Robert Pattinson with 35 points playing off a 23 handicap.

Our next scheduled game is to be played at Victoria Country Club on Monday 19th October. Many thanks to our sponsor, the Golfers Club for their continued support.
