Keith Williamson, winner of the KZNGU Senior Trophy and Gold Medal, sharing a joke with Richard Nel at the brief prizegiving.

The annual KZNGU Sponsored Senior Trophy, was contested for at Durban Country Club on Monday 7th June 2021 in what can only be described as extremely trying and testing conditions. There was a blustery north-easter coming off the sea with a bite of cold in it which did not make things easy for the 68 players that finished. The final four-ball had to finish in the dark due to an overall late start as there was a morning tournament that pre-ceeded our afternoon start time, which delayed matters somewhat.

The KZN Senior Trophy is an event that started way back in 1932 and is currently played for on an individual stableford format across all handicap divisions and is open to all senior golfers over the age of 50. No order of merit points are awarded in this competition as it does not form part of the normal KZN Senior Amateur tournaments.

The tough playing conditions resulted in not many golfers making more than 30 points on the day. There were however a few exceptions and winning the Senior Trophy and Gold Medal with an exceptional score of 38 individual stableford points was Keith Williamson (pictured above with the trophy). Keith played immaculate golf returning a round of 77 gross off a 7 handicap to make his 38 points. Congratulations Keith - well played !

Robin Singh was second with a total of 36 individual stableford points playing off a 13 handicap. Robin earned himself a Silver Medal in the process. Unfortunately Robin could not stay for prizegiving and to have his photograph taken.

Third place went to Rob Santini (pictured above L with Richard Nel), also with 36 individual stableford points playing off a 19 handicap. Rob was therefore counted out into third place, based on having a higher handicap.

Fourth place went to Ramesh Rajpal with 34 individual stableford points playing off a 14 handicap. Ramesh is pictured above being congratulated by Richard Nel.

The final placing went to Domingos De Jesus with 33 individal stableford points, playing off a 14 handicap. Unfortunately Domingos had to leave early and therefore was not available for a photograph.

All five prizewinnwers will receive their vouchers from the KZNGU Offices via email. Go to the Senior News TAB and Seniors Downloads section on the left of the page to see all the results for the day.

Many thanks to the KZNGU for continuing to sponsor and promote senior golf and we look forward to  next year's event.
