Report to KZNGU on SADGA’s involvement with North Bay Lodge – June 2024

• North Bay Lodge is a residence for long-term independent living for adults diagnosed with both physical and intellectual disabilities, Located at the prime area of Durban North.
• The home provides adequate supervision and supports to individuals who have certain functional incapacity and are transitioning to living in a community setting
• North Bay Lodge residents are multicultural, ranging from 25 years old to 70 years old.
• They have offered to host the Interschools in July
• SADGA involvement with North Bay Lodge began in the year 2023 with the aim of empowering participants with different disabilities through weekly clinics under the guidance of Sandile Msimango and Emil Maehler (Sadga Ambassador)
• As part of SADGA’s career guidance and capacity building, disabled golfers, Emil and Raphael have been given part time jobs with the residents identifying with them

• We started with a group of 10 participants and it has now grown to roughly 18 active participants, and the support we get from the North Bay Staff has been amazing and heartwarming.
• Golf Modified environments are created with the use of Snag Equipment, cones and safety ropes with the in-house helpers making sure of safety and discipline is adhered to during the sessions
• Golf has been a blessing for the home, with the joy and fun we bring during the sessions and if there was a way, they will be playing golf every day of the week.

• Three of the participants have been on the golf course before and are very competitive that’s why we started a monthly competition for them and each individual that does well gets a small prize for that particular month.
• It has been a journey and this would not be possible without the KZN Golf Union and Lily for the unwavering support.
