KZN Senior Am Results from Maritzburg GC, 20 May 2025

There was a smaller than usual turnout for the May monthly tournament held at Maritzburg Golf Club on Tuesday 20th May 2025. No doubt this can be ascribed to the ongoing roadworks on the N3 with associated traffic congestion which has a definite impact on travel decisions during this time.

Maritzburg Golf Club, like most KZN golf courses, has had its fair share of rain over the last two/three months and although there were a few areas of wetness, the course was generally in great condition. The greens were rolling nicely and there was some run of the fairways which resulted in some good scores being posted on the day.

Dean Stopforth had a great round of one over par 71 playing off a 7 handicap to take first place in the A Division, one shot ahead of Kevin Curren and Alex Pillay who both shot level par rounds of 72. Second place in the A Division therefore went to Kevin Curren on a count-out basis. Other good scores were posted by Andy Forde with gross 73 while there were another six players grouped on gross 75. The Best Nett prize in the A Division went to Mike Atkinson who also had a great round of gross 75 less 9 handicap = 66 net. Runner-up nett was Alex Pillay with gross 72 less 4 handicap = 68 nett.

In the B Division, Ganas Naicker played some excellent golf and was a landslide winner with 43 individual stableford points. Second place went to Chris Carelson with 39 stableford points. Other good scores in the B Division, but not in the prizes, were Domingo de Jesus and Gavin Wilkinson with 38 points, and Bheki Ndlovu, Brendan Toohey and Mark Thorpe all with 37 individual stableford points.

The C Division results were also good with Lennie Subbiah taking first prize with 40 individual stableford points. Bheki Zulu was counted into second place with 38 stableford points counting out Pat Moodley and Sam Pillay (also with 38 points) in the process. Other good scores came from Ricky Brown and Sunil Deenanath, each with 37 points.

Congratulations to all the winners. Our next game is at Simbithi on 10th June 2025.

Many thanks to our sponsors, the Golfers Club for their continued support.
