KZN Senior Monthly MECC and Senior Trophy

The August KZN Senior monthly tournament which incorporated the 2025 Senior Trophy, which is an annual event, sponsored by the KZNGU, was played at Mount Edgecombe Country Club, the Woods course on Monday 18th August. A full field of players were met with a gusty, strong north east wind which made the going a little more difficult especially when faced with downhill, down grain and down wind putts on very fast greens. Obviously some managed better than others and some really good golf was witnessed on the day.

As mentioned, the August monthly also included the Senior Trophy which is an annual individual stableford event, played across all divisions. There was a tie for first place between Kennith Commins and Glen Sithole, who both returned scores of 38 individual stableford points, with Kennith (pictured) being awarded first place on a count-out basis to win the trophy and Glen taking the runner-up spot. Congratulations to both.

Moving on to the Senior Monthly tournament results, the A Division was won by Phillip Grant with a score of 75 gross, one shot ahead of Guy O’Connor, Kennith Commins, Monay Pretorius and Sean Fenger all on 76 gross. Guy was awarded second place on a count-out basis. The Best Nett prize therefore went to Kennith Commins with a score of 76 gross less 8 handicap = 68 nett. Runner-up was Monay Pretorius with 76 gross less 4 handicap = 72 nett counting out visitor Richard Brooker also with 72 nett.

There were four places paid out in the B Division. First place went to Glen Sithole with 38 individual stableford points, second (on a count-out) was Jordeo De Jesus with 36 points, third was Ganas Naicker with 36 points and fourth was Leon Maritz with 34 points, counting out Mark Thorpe also with 34 points.

There were good scores in the C Division as well with Gonaseelan Govender with 37 pts, Paddy Sookdeo taking second place. Fourth was Garth Strong with 34 points counting out Jayaram Naidoo, Rajendran Govender and Sewnath Ramjith, all with 34 points.

Our next monthly tournament is scheduled to be played at Princes Grant on Thursday 18th September.

Many thanks to our sponsors, the Golfers Club for their continued support.
