KZN Senior Amateur Results from Maritzburg Golf Club 16/5/2023

There could possibly be only one reason for a reduced field of 65 players that turned out to play in the KZN Senior Amateur monthly tournament at Maritzburg Golf Club on Tuesday 16th May and that is the disruptions caused by the roadworks currently being undertaken on the N3. I say this because the course was in excellent condition with receptive greens, as most of the scores reveal. Everyone spoken to complimented the venue and those that couldn’t make the tournament, certainly missed out on a great day.

Alex Pillay must have found the course and conditions to his liking and returned a two under gross score of 70 to take first place in the A Division. Sean Fenger finished one over par to finish on 73 to take second place. Other good scores in the A Division, but out of the prizes were Guy O’Connor, Morgan Phillips and Richard Nel all with scores of gross 74.

The Best Nett prize in the A Division went to Dean Stopforth with a gross score of 75 less 5 h’cap = 70 nett. Runner-up was Mike Atkinson with gross 79 less 9 h’cap = 70 nett.

There were good scores returned in the B Division as well with Robin Singh taking first place with 40 individual stableford points playing off a 10 handicap. Steve Marshall also returned a score of 40 points playing off a 17 handicap and was counted out into second place. Third place went to Edward Mngoma with a score of 38 points playing off a 12 handicap and counting out Hylton Strachan, also with 38 points in the process. Other good scores of 37 points in the B Division were returned by Brendan Toohey, Brian Olsen, Ganas Naicker and SS Mzimela.

Two places were paid out in the C Division and these went to some excellent scores. Paks “George” Pakiriy took first place with 45 individual stableford points playing off a 24 handicap. Second place went to another excellent score of 43 points by Ujen Naidu playing off a 25 handicap. Third place but not in the prizes was Bridg Rambujan with 38 stableford points.

Well played and congratulations to all prizewinners. Our next game is scheduled to be played at Bluff National Park on Tuesday 6th June. See you all there.

Many thanks to our sponsors for their continued support.
