It was a tough day at Victoria Country Club on Tuesday 23rd January for our first outing of 2024 in what must be the wettest Summer experienced for many, many years. It rained all day and the rough was wet, long “club grabbing” and “juicy” and had to be avoided at all costs. The rain however made the greens very receptive and as always, were in perfect condition and rolling beautifully. Given the conditions and rain on the day it was no surprise that a total of 28 players decided to either not start or pack it in at some stage of the round. However, some 75 undeterred souls braved the conditions and produced some truly amazing results at the end of the day.

There were some great scores returned in the three divisions given the conditions with Morgan Phillips shooting a gross 70 to take first place in the A Division. Only one shot behind was Sean Fenger with gross 71 who took second place. Lynton Beckett, Guy O’ Connor and Keith Forde all returned 73 gross which gave Lynton Best Nett prize with 73 – 1 = 72 and Deon Knotze runner-up Best Nett with 79 – 7 = 72.

The B Division also produced some excellent scores with Mike Sekobane taking first place with a score of 38 individual stableford points. Runner-up was Jose’ de Jesus with 36 stableford points.

Bridg Rambujan stuck it out to win the C Division with an excellent score of 38 individual stableford points with Wessie Wessels taking second spot with 35 points.
