Starting in February, 2023 the KZNGU will be entering into an agreement with the renowned Mckenna Academies concentrating on the development of the provinces junior golfers specifically aimed at improving the all round skills of players of potential to represent the province at both provincial and national level.
Mckenna Academies is based at silver lakes golf estate in Pretoria and Umhlali Country Club in KZN and is headed up by well-known and respected PGA head coach Emile Steinmann. Assisted by strength and fitness specialists as well as sport psychologist Jarryd Byron.
Partnered by titelist golf, the academies’ mantra is “developing super humans not just superstars”
The programme includes 10 one day training camps to be held at various courses in the province covering a host of topics from “flightscope” analysis to video analysis to psychology sessions and many more. There is also range of eight 18 holes tournaments to be played in the province where the prizes will be sponsored by mckenna academies plus two events in collaboaration with golfrsa.
The academy also offers bursaries sponsored by the african turf academy/r&a which is part of the mckenna academies group.
A squad of 12 players will be nominated by the KZNGU to attend the initial training camps and will keep a record of the players performances on an “order of performance” list. This record will determine which players will stay in the programme for its entire duration or who may be replaced depending on results of individuals during the course of the year.
