KZN Senior Monthly at Simbithi 10 June 2025

Kevin Curren wins the A div at Simbithi.

With only four par fours and one par five, Simbithi is a tricky “par three” course which was made all the more difficult with a strong, gusting wind on Tuesday 10th June 2025. Accuracy with mid and short-iron play is key to returning a good score at this venue where missing a green on the “wrong side” very quickly turns a par three into a par five (or more). One has to play this course often to get the measure of the excellent, undulating greens which have many subtle breaks to test even the best with the flat stick.

Given the difficult conditions on the day, it is no surprise that scores were not as good as usually returned at our events. There was one significant event where Brendon (Bushy) Boshoff managed to hole his tee shot at hole number one (his 10th hole) to record his second lifetime hole-in-one achievement, having started his round on the back nine. Congratulations Brendon !

There was a close finish in the A Division with Kevin Curren taking first place with a gross score of eight over par 68, counting out second placed Andy Forde and Philip Grant also with gross 68. The Best Nett place went to Mike Atkinson with a score of gross 69 less 8 handicap = nett 61. Runner-up was Stephen Hughes with gross 70 less 6 handicap = nett 64.

In the B Division, Devanand Brijlall managed a solid round to finish with 36 individual stableford points to take first place ahead of Nkosinathi Langa with 33 points and third placed Siebert Neethling with 31 points, who counted out Bheki Zulu who also had 31 points.

Sharky Adams took first place in the C Division with a score of 34 individual stableford points. Second was Petrus Strydom with 33 points who counted out Sam Pillay, also with 33 points.

Our next game is at Bluff National Park on Tuesday 24th June where we hope to see a full turnout. Many thanks to our sponsors, the Golfers Club for their continued support.
