There was a smaller than normal turnout for our game at Simbithi Country Club situated at Shaka’s Rock on the KZN North Coast on 7th September which is a pity, because this picturesque and challenging par 60 course certainly wasn’t a “push-over” as many found out.
There were those that did in fact play some steady golf on the day. Ian King managed to avoid the numerous pitfalls of this challenging short course and returned a level par round of gross 60 to take first place in the A Division. Three shots behind was Lynton Beckett who took second place with gross 63. Not far behind was Steve Joubert who returned a gross 65 playing off a 5 handicap to end with a nett 60 to take the Best Nett prize in the A Division. Runner-up was Mike Atkinson with 69 gross less 8 h’cap = 61 nett.
It was a close finish in the B Division with Robin Singh taking first place with 39 individual stableford points winning on a count-out from Maurice Chellin also with 39 points. Third spot went to Mike Sekobane with 38 points. Other good scores but not earning prizes were Dom de Jesus and Richard Reid with 36 points each.
There was also some steady performance in the C Division by Cecil Prinsloo who took first place with 37 individual stableford points. Runner-up was Terry Epstein with 36 points.
